Beat The Heat With These Great Arizona Stay-cations

Every summer, we Arizonans try to find ways to survive the heat. While getting out of town has traditionally been the name of the game, with gas prices and airline tickets at record highs, many of us are electing to stay in town for the summer. But that doesn't mean we can't cool off!

Great deals are happening at many of our local resorts, and bonus, these resorts have water parks!

East Valley: Great Wolf Lodge in Scottsdale is the newest addition to this list. Opening in 2019, they've made their mark on the stay-cation crowd. Fun for all ages includes a wave pool, a lazy river, and the Talking Stick Treehouse which is a multi-level structure that gives a whole new meaning to the idea of a "splash pad." For bigger kids (and the kid at heart) there are larger slides, some with multi-person rafts that fit the whole family. This is a completely indoor water park, so there won't be any fights over reapplying sunscreen.

This resort also has mini-golf, a ropes course, an arcade, and much more...

South Phoenix: *Arizona Grand is located in South Phoenix and has the most expansive water park on our list at 7 acres. This includes an 8-story free fall slide, a 4-story slide, and a more gradual 300-foot slide for younger kids and adults who no longer have a "thrill seeker within". Arizona Grand also has a wave pool, lazy river, and a splash pad for the little ones. Photo credit: www.resortpass.com

A wonderful feature of this resort is the number of cabanas available for rent. They've managed to tuck cabanas in multiple areas of the water park, allowing more opportunities for shade.

North Phoenix: *Hilton Phoenix Resort at the Peak is located in North Phoenix. This is a smaller water park, but packs a ton of fun. One unique attraction is water volleyball and basketball. Located at separate ends of a large pool, kids and adults of all ages join together for friendly games while keeping cool. The lazy river and water slide are perfect for all ages as well.

This park is small enough that if you have older kids, you can still keep track of them while relaxing with a pina colada while they do the water slide 67 times in a row. I consider that a big plus!

Lake Havasu: London Bridge Resort located in Lake Havasu City is a great way to get out of town, but not out of state. About three hours from central Phoenix, this resort has one water slide and a family friendly pool. Other available activities include: boat tours that leave right from their dock, jeep tours where guides take you through Native American and mining history, and ATV tours that take you through mining sites and incredible canyons.

Fun Fact: London Bridge Resort is named for the famed London Bridge that once stood over the river Thames. Yes, this is the bridge from the children's song. A successful inventor and entrepreneur named Robert P. McCulloch won the bid for the bridge and brought it to Lake Havasu in 1971. Stay cool, and stay-cation!
